Target Apologizes After Outrage By Conservatives

On Tuesday, after receiving feedback from conservatives, Target announced it would be making “adjustments” to its clothing lines.

According to Reuters, in reaction to the uproar, the retail giant will also review a range of swimwear advertised as being able to “tuck” genitalia for transsexual women, as well as some products for youngsters.

Conservatives have recently called for a boycott of the discount chain due to some of their collections. Products aimed at the transgender youth population 

In recent months, Bud Light is just one of many businesses that conservatives have attacked for their inclusive policies toward LGBTQ+ customers.

Target claims that “due to threats that harm the safety and well-being of employees,” the firm has decided to remove several items from the controversial collection. 

This past week, on May 16, Target CEO Brian Cornell lauded the company’s diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) policies, calling them the “right thing” that “fueled much of our growth” during an interview on Fortune’s Leadership Next podcast.

Cornell argued that these moves were beneficial to the company’s reputation and the community at large. He said their efforts to promote DEI are helping them drive sales, it’s helping to build greater engagement with both their teams and their guests, and those are just the right things for business today.

The decision by Target on Tuesday to pull some of their pride goods was received with backlash from members of the LGBTQ+ community and its allies.

Journalist Erin Reed tweeted that businesses should not be trusted. “If this is true, then Target had better not display a rainbow logo this year. No surrender to fascists is acceptable.”

According to reports, Target is removing its Pride window displays.
