GOP Rep Accused Of Killing Border Bill For Trump

Representative Byron Donalds, a Republican from Florida, was confronted by Fox News host Shannon Bream over the “killing” of the bipartisan plan that would have secured the borders for former President Donald Trump.

Nikki Haley, a Republican running for president, was criticized by Bream for referring to Trump as the one who told you guys to kill a border deal. Donalds blasted the criticism by accusing Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer of doing nothing with the bill.

In the run-up to the 2024 presidential election, illegal immigration is a significant topic, and many are skeptical of President Joe Biden’s approach to the problem. Conservative extremists in the GOP-led House claimed the $118 billion accord would not do enough to stop illegal immigration into the US, so they rejected it. The measure would have addressed critical concerns at the southern border. A minimum of sixty “yes” votes were needed to move the measure to the House, where Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson of Louisiana had already pronounced the bill “dead on arrival.”

According to Donalds, House Republicans made it clear early on that they did not support the deal, disproving the idea that Trump destroyed the accord. Claims that Johnson tried to scuttle the border deal to benefit Trump surfaced in response to concerns over Trump’s involvement in the bill, an allegation that Johnson had previously denied.

On Thursday, Biden spoke on the package, calling it “a win for the American people” and noting that “the majority of Democrats and Republicans” had backed it in Congress. Last month, C. Stewart Verdery Jr., a former official under George W. Bush, wrote that Republicans would come to regret rejecting the border security bill because Democrats have never before consented to such a high degree of “Republican enforcement policy” on the border.
