Democratic Socialists of America Hold Rally To Support Palestine

The Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), supported by some members known as “The Squad,” are hosting an event advocating for the Palestinian cause this Sunday afternoon.

DSA is the “United States largest socialist organization the with over 90,000 members”. Their main objective is to “amplify working-class influence against the prevailing control of the affluent and dominant groups in the five boroughs.”

After a sudden attack on Israel by Hamas militants, which resulted in the deaths of over 600 Israelis, the DSA disclosed plans to conduct a rally championing the Palestinian perspective at 1 p.m. in New York City’s Times Square.

The statement from DSA read, “In solidarity with the Palestinian people and recognition of their struggle against decades of occupation and systemic discrimination, FREE PALESTINE!”

For the rally, DSA emphasized the importance of “protest safety,” advising participants to be cautious, ensure someone is informed of their whereabouts, and share legal information with someone trustworthy.

In another message, DSA attributed a major tragic event to Israeli actions.

“DSA stands firm in our commitment to the Palestinian cause,” the group stated. “The events we witness today are a consequence of Israel’s policies — policies bolstered by substantial financial support from the U.S.”

“End the violence. End the Occupation. Free Palestine,” was their clarion call.

“We categorically condemn civilian casualties. Adherence to international human rights laws is essential,” remarked the DSA, and then went on to criticize Israel’s long-standing policies against Palestinians.

The DSA emphasized that the Palestinians have been subjected to systemic discrimination and violence for over six decades, stating that it is imperative for socialists to take action.

Several progressive members of the U.S. House of Representatives are in alignment with the DSA. This quasi-membership includes members of The Squad: Reps. Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Tlaib (D-Mich.), Bush (D-Mo.), Omar (D-Minn.), Bowman (D-N.Y.), and Casar (D-Texas).

In light of the recent events in Israel involving Hamas, including reported hostage situations and public displays of victims, The Squad members have urged Israel to exercise restraint. These Democratic representatives have consistently called for an immediate ceasefire and de-escalation.
