Survey Reveals Deep Division on Immigration Policy

An Economist/YouGov survey conducted from January 26-28, with a margin of error of +/- 3.2%, has unveiled a significant split in American public opinion regarding the Trump administration’s immigration policy. The policy, which focuses on the arrest and deportation of illegal immigrants, has garnered support from half of the survey’s respondents.

The survey results show that 36% of supporters “strongly” endorse the policy, while 14% “somewhat” support it. On the other side of the debate, 25% of respondents “strongly” oppose the measures, and 15% somewhat oppose them, with 9% remaining unsure.

More people support the policy than oppose it – and this is from a news outlet and pollster that has historically worked against Trump. So imagine what the real numbers are like…

Partisan Divide on Immigration Enforcement

Nonetheless, the survey highlights a stark partisan divide on the issue of immigration enforcement. An overwhelming 88% of Republicans support the policy, with 71% expressing strong support. In contrast, 76% of Democrats stand firmly against it. Independent voters show a more nuanced stance, with 45% supporting the policy, 40% opposing it, and 15% undecided.

The Trump administration’s approach to immigration enforcement has been notably different from previous administrations. In the first week of President Trump’s term, Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents conducted a series of operations targeting illegal immigrants with criminal backgrounds.

“Agents arrested nationals from a slew of countries, including Afghanistan, Angola, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Senegal and Venezuela,” Breitbart News reported.

During a 33-hour period in Trump’s first week in office, ICE arrested over 460 illegal immigrants for various crimes. The agency also issued more than 420 detainers for nationals arrested for violent crimes. These detainers “requests ICE be notified when a national is released from custody,” according to Breitbart News.

Senator Ted Cruz praised the arrests and deportations, describing them as “nothing short of spectacular,” and criticized previous administrations for not apprehending known criminals. The actions taken by ICE have been met with approval from those who prioritize strict immigration enforcement and national security.

While the survey shows strong support for the administration’s enforcement efforts, other polls reveal a more complex picture of American attitudes towards immigration. Despite policy changes, there is strong bipartisan support for strengthening the border.

Trump is on the right track – and Dems know they’re losing!
