Dating App Turned Murder Marketplace
Jaclyn Diiorio, a 26-year-old hairstylist from Runnemede, New Jersey, has been arrested and charged after allegedly attempting to arrange the murders of her ex-boyfriend, a 53-year-old Philadelphia police officer, and his 19-year-old daughter. According to the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office, Diiorio turned to the dating app Tinder not to find romance, but to locate someone willing to commit murder for payment. The plot was uncovered when the person she contacted through the app reported her intentions to authorities.
The relationship between Diiorio and the Philadelphia officer had lasted approximately one year before ending. Their post-relationship tensions had previously resulted in Diiorio filing a temporary restraining order against the officer, which was subsequently dropped. In September 2022, the officer’s home was reportedly vandalized with a Molotov cocktail, though investigators have not officially connected this incident to Diiorio or the current murder-for-hire allegations.
The Setup and Arrest
After initial contact on Tinder, Diiorio and the informant met in person at a Wawa convenience store in Runnemede on March 31. Over the following days, they communicated via text messages and phone calls to arrange details of the planned murders. On April 3, the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office was alerted about Diiorio’s intentions, and the Philadelphia Police Department was immediately informed that one of their officers was a target.
The following day, on April 4, Diiorio met with the informant at a Dollar General store where she provided a $500 down payment for the killings. Immediately after this transaction, the Gloucester Township Police Department Special Response Team moved in and arrested Diiorio. During the arrest, officers discovered an unlabeled bottle of pills suspected to be alprazolam, adding drug possession to her list of charges.
Serious Charges and Potential Consequences
Diiorio now faces multiple serious charges including two counts of first-degree attempted murder, one count of first-degree conspiracy to commit murder, and one count of third-degree possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Camden County Prosecutor Grace MacAulay provided details about the case, noting that this represents the first murder-for-hire plot in Camden County in decades, underscoring its exceptional nature in the region’s criminal landscape.
If convicted, Diiorio faces severe penalties under New Jersey law. Each first-degree attempted murder charge carries a potential sentence of 10 to 20 years in state prison. Currently, she remains in custody at the Camden County Correctional Facility awaiting further court proceedings. Her detention hearing was scheduled for April 9, where a judge would determine whether she should remain in custody until trial or be released under specific conditions.
