We Finally Know What AOC Told Matt Gaetz

(FreedomBeacon.com)- During last week’s Speaker battle in the House, cameras caught Democrat Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in separate discussions with her Republican colleagues Paul Gosar of Arizona and Matt Gaetz of Florida.

Speculation ran riot on Twitter, with users wondering what on earth those two Republicans could be discussing with the Squaddie.

The parody account “Bad Lip Reading” even offered up his version of the two conversations:

According to ABC News reporter Gabe Ferris, Gosar and Ocasio-Cortez were actually discussing an opposition strategy to block McCarthy’s bid for Speaker.

Ferris said Ocasio-Cortez had assured Gosar that the Democrats weren’t plotting to help McCarthy gain the votes to reach a majority.

Ferris, who spoke with Ocasio-Cortez, said the New York congresswoman said that McCarthy supposedly told the Republican conference that some Democrats were likely to give up and stop voting, thereby lowering the threshold on the number of votes he would need to secure the majority.

Gosar was asking Ocasio-Cortez if she would be one of the Democrats to give up, prompting her to say the Democrats “would never do that.”

During his conversation with Ocasio-Cortez, Matt Gaetz reportedly told the Squaddie that McCarthy was telling the Republican caucus that he might be able to cut a deal with Democrats to get them to vote “present,” allowing him to win a majority of votes, according to the Intercept.

Ocasio-Cortez told the Intercept that she told Gaetz that wasn’t going to happen and that she double-checked with her party’s leadership to confirm that there had been no side deal.

In the end, Kevin McCarthy was finally elected Speaker of the House during the fifteenth round of voting on Friday night after the last remaining Republican hold-outs opted to vote “present” instead of voting for another candidate, giving McCarthy a majority of votes.

Speaking of “Bad Lip Reading,” the parody account also provided audio for the heated exchange between Kevin McCarthy, Matt Gaetz, and Mike Rogers:
