Ukraine President Barred From Oscars Appearance by Organizers

( For some inexplicable reason, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences tapped the unfunny “comedienne” Amy Schumer to co-host this year’s Oscars along with comedienne Wanda Sykes and actress Regina Hall.

(Here would be the place to make a joke about how it takes three women to do the job one man can do on his own.)

And apparently, Schumer thought it would be a good idea to exploit the war in Ukraine to goose the Oscar ratings by inviting Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky to appear during the broadcast.

What a dumb idea.

But, hey. This is Amy Schumer. Dumb ideas are the very foundation of her entire career.

In an interview on The Drew Barrymore Show, Schumer said she pitched the idea of having Zelensky make a cameo appearance either by beaming in via satellite or prerecording a message that would air during the broadcast “because there are so many eyes on the Oscars.”

Not anymore, Amy. Nobody watches the Oscars anymore.

She isn’t “afraid to go there,” the dopey Schumer told Barrymore. But, she added, she’s not the one producing the broadcast.

And for that, we can all be grateful. The Oscars are painful enough as it is.

The producers probably didn’t give Schumer’s silly “Let’s get Zelensky” suggestion a moment’s thought. Not because the producers are afraid to “go there,” but because it’s a silly suggestion.
