Adam Clayton, the bass player for U2, has announced that he and Mariana Teixeira de Carvalho, his wife of almost ten years, are divorcing.
The musician, 64, and the lawyer, 45, have said that they are divorcing amicably and will share parenting responsibilities for their six-year-old daughter Alba.
Clayton and his wife have peacefully split after more than a decade of marriage, according to a statement that the couple’s spokesperson verified.
In 2013, Adam and Mariana were married in a small ceremony at a Dublin register office. Two days later, at the château in Mandelieu-la-Napoule, which dates back to the 14th century, the pair tied the knot again, this time with the help of Adam’s bandmates Bono and The Edge, who were all present at the French Riviera ceremony.
Adam was said to be leaving Dublin for London at the time, where Mariana was working as an associate director of the Hauser & Wirth art gallery after a career as a human rights lawyer.
In July 2017, they welcomed a daughter named Alba into the world. To celebrate, they placed a personal ad in the Irish Times newspaper stating that Adam and Mariana Clayton are overjoyed to share the news of their lovely daughter Alba’s arrival.
As the last member of U2 to become a parent, Adam became a father in 2010 when he welcomed a son with an unidentified French lady.
His ex-girlfriend, Naomi Campbell, was a famous model. They were even engaged for a short time in 1994 before breaking up the same year.
In 2006, Adam proposed to Susie Smith, who had previously worked as an assistant to Paul McGuinness; however, the pair split up in February of the following year.
At the 2017 MusiCares MAP Fund gala, the U2 member accepted the Stevie Ray Vaughan Award and spoke candidly about his relationship with Mariana.
He said he thinks one of the great things about bands is that they allow you to be irresponsible for longer.
Adam proposed to Mariana at the 2012 Rio de Janeiro Carnival in Brazil after the couple had dated for around four years.
