(FreedomBeacon.com)- One day after a similar device exploded at the Ukrainian Embassy in Spain, injuring one staff member, the U.S. Embassy in Madrid revealed that it had discovered a letter bomb.
According to reports, U.S. Embassy officials confirmed that they had received a suspicious package in Madrid and were aware of indications that similar parcels had been sent to other sites in Spain.
Authorities detonated the letter bomb. It is now being investigated as a possible terrorist attack.
Reports show this is the sixth such explosive device to be mailed to Spanish targets, including the Spanish defense ministry, an air force facility, the Ukrainian embassy, and weapons manufacturers.
Ukrainian Embassy spokesman Oleg Nikolenko claimed early Wednesday that an explosive device was “hidden” in an envelope and went off. Since the envelope was sent by regular mail, it was not scanned upon arrival. An employee was hurt when the explosive device produced a small wound on the ring finger of the right hand. The unidentified man reportedly went to a hospital for treatment.
Last Thursday, Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles met with her Ukrainian counterpart, Oleksii Reznikov, to discuss the specifics of Spain’s expanded military aid to Ukraine.
In a statement, Robles said that the unwavering commitment of Spain, NATO countries, and the European Union to defend Ukraine would not be swayed by the recent deliveries or any other aggressive action.
Reports reveal no group or individual has claimed responsibility for the letter bombs. Rafael Perez, Spain’s Secretary of State for Security, indicated Thursday that the letters were likely mailed within Spain, though an inquiry has not yet confirmed this.
At a press conference in Bucharest, Romania, Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke out forcefully against Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. To help the Ukrainian people recover from the recent attacks on civilian infrastructure, the United States has pledged an additional $53 million in aid, which coincided with Blinken’s visit.
I wonder how much of the “aid” will be laundered back to the politicians in the United States?
