(FreedomBeacon.com)- Tulsi Gabbard left the Democratic Party in a very public way last October, departing the party that she once hoped to lead from the White House.
Recently, she spoke with Kayleigh McEnany of Fox News, explaining why she left the liberal party. Gabbard said that the attacks that Democrats were making on people of faith and the fact that they were erasing God “from just about every facet of our public lives” are some of the main reasons she decided to become a registered independent.
She said that it’s disturbing to her that God was being “run out” of society today by the Democratic Party. As Gabbard explained:
“It’s ironic to me that God, someone you can trust, is being run out of society. [And] we know he was an integral part of our founding, mentioned in many of our founding documents.”
McEnany, who once served as the press secretary for former President Donald Trump, agreed with Gabbard, saying that even though the concept of separation of church and state is “found nowhere in our founding documents, it’s been utilized to create a religion of secularism.”
McEnany then asked Gabbard, who is a former member of the House of Representatives, whether “erasing, broadly, God out of society in a way perhaps our founding fathers never intended” was doing damage to society.
Very quickly, Gabbard replied that “there’s no question about it.” She continued:
“This erosion of this spiritual foundation of our country is a direct consequence of those who are trying to erase God from just about every facet of our public lives.”
Gabbard said that the Democratic Party working to erase God from culture and also their attacks on many religious practitioners were a huge part of why she decided to leave the liberal party. She told McEnany:
“This is one of the main reasons why I chose to leave the Democratic Party: Because I saw increasingly how not only were they trying to erase any mention of God, [but were] attacking people of faith, attacking people of spirituality, especially Christians.”
As a result of those attacks, Gabbard said a large part of the country has been led in a certain direct that’s causing major damage “to families, to children, to our communities [and] to our policymakers, many of whom think that they are God and are trying to control us in every way possible.”
Many in the Democratic Party have attacked God and Christians in general in recent years, especially by those who associate with the ultra-progressive wing of the party, including members of the so-called “Squad” in the House.
Gabbard announced her decision to leave the Democratic Party through a video she posted on her social media channels. She was a representative from Hawaii who served in Congress from 2013 through 2021.
In her message, she said:
“I can no longer remain in today’s Democratic Party that is now under the complete control of an elitist cabal of warmongers driven by cowardly wokeness, who divide us by racializing every issue & stroke anti-white racism, [and] actively work to undermine our God-given freedoms.”
