(FreedomBeacon.com)- According to reports from National Defense, a new service component would concentrate on China’s expanding military capabilities.
During a recent event hosted by the Defense Writers Group, Lieutenant General Chance Saltzman, who serves as the deputy chief for operations, nuclear and cyber, stated that the idea to station the first service component in the Indo-Pacific area was spurred by the military danger posed by China.
According to National Defense, the newly established branch of the armed forces known as the Space Force is making incremental progress.
Saltzman released a statement saying that they’re little, and they’re going to have to expand slowly. He said that they are at the stage where they should be taking baby steps in order to do it right.
“We won’t just overgrow too rapidly,” the statement read.
He did not provide any specifics on the time schedule for the service component, but he did state that the Space Force was currently working through administrative problems with the State Department and the Pentagon.
Saltzman also disclosed that the Space Force is keeping an eye on Ukraine.
He made notice of the “great dependence” that was being placed on satellite communications and other space-based capabilities. He singled out Starlink, the satellite-based internet branch of SpaceX, as an example since it was effective in fending off an attack by the Russian government on Ukraine.
According to a story that was published on the website C4ISRNET, Dave Tremper, the director of electronic warfare for the Office of the Secretary of Defense, cited Starlink’s capability in March to quickly block a Russian effort to jam the satellite internet service. The agency has been responsible for maintaining Ukraine’s online connectivity.
According to Saltzman, the commercial capabilities of Starlink have brought attention to the significance of increasing the number of satellites in use. There is great advocacy on the value of “satellite constellation proliferation.”
Saltzman explained that a constellation of satellites is very difficult to defeat since it is such a vast collection of targets. It is not possible to disrupt only one satellite to get the result you are seeking.
