Jenna Ellis, a former lawyer to Donald Trump, has turned on him and said she cannot support his bid to return to the Oval Office. “Why I have chosen to distance is because of that frankly malignant narcissistic tendency to simply say that he’s never done anything wrong,” she said.
Ellis is one of 18 of the former President’s associates facing charges in Georgia over alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 Presidential election result there. Ellis pleaded not guilty last month to racketeering charges and solicitation of violation of an oath by a public officer. She was released on $100,000 bail.
Speaking on American Family Radio with host Steve Deace, Ellis said she has great love for the former President, but she is troubled by the “idolatry” of some of his supporters, whom she says are willing to place Mr. Trump over and above the country, the Constitution, and conservative American values. Deace agreed and said Trump needs to find Jesus and exercise enough humility to admit that he is “not God.”
The Colorado lawyer joined the legal profession in 2012 as an Assistant District Attorney in Weld County – an area that made headlines after failing to secede from the rest of the state because it was too liberal. A devout Christian, she worked at the Colorado Christian University and as a legal commentator on Denver radio. She joined Donald Trump’s team of attorneys last year.
Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis has charged President Trump with several offenses and recently made public some of the witnesses lined up to testify. These include Lin Wood, a pro-Trump lawyer who will testify on behalf of the state. Mr. Wood categorically denies betraying Trump, saying, “I didn’t flip on President Trump. That’s just pure nonsense. I wouldn’t have any knowledge to flip on him.”
He acknowledged that he is a witness in the case but said his testimony relates to another Trump lawyer, Sidney Powell.
