(FreedomBeacon.com)- A poll released last week found former President Donald Trump leading President Joe Biden in a 2024 hypothetical match-up by a mere three points.
The Emerson College poll conducted last weekend also showed the former president with a favorability rating 12 points higher than that of President Biden. Fifty-nine percent of respondents said they had a “somewhat or very favorable” view of former President Trump while only 47 percent of respondents said the same about Joe Biden.
Asked whom they would vote for in 2024, 45 percent of respondents chose Trump while 42 percent chose Biden.
The former President leads Biden both among suburban voters (47 percent to 38 percent) and rural voters (59 percent to 35 percent). That’s especially bad for Biden given the role suburban voters played in securing a Biden victory in 2020.
Among voters without a college degree, Trump beat Biden 51 percent to 33 percent. Those with a 4-year degree or higher went heavily for Biden, 52 percent to Trump’s 37 percent.
Emerson also found Joe Biden’s overall approval at 43 percent, a one-point increase from its February poll. But Biden’s approval remains underwater as 49 percent of respondents disapprove of the president.
Among Independent voters, Biden continues to struggle. Only 28 percent of Independents in the Emerson poll approve of the President while a staggering 64 percent disapprove.
In the generic congressional vote, Republicans outpaced Democrats 47 percent to 42 percent.
Emerson found that 37 percent of respondents said the economy is the most important issue facing the country. Healthcare was a distant second with 14 percent while the war in Ukraine came in third with only 12 percent.
The poll also revealed that the majority of respondents, 51 percent, think Biden should focus more on domestic problems while 35 percent think he should prioritize the war in Ukraine.
The Emerson poll sampled 1,023 registered voters and had a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.
