Trump Speaks Out On McConnell’s ‘Sad’ Situation

In an interview with Breitbart News’ Matt Boyle on Sunday, former president Donald Trump discussed Republican Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell’s recent incident at the podium, in which he seemed to freeze up for a moment.

Prior to his zoning out, Mitch McConnell assured reporters that the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) would be finalized that week with strong support from both parties. After that, there was a long awkward pause.

South Dakota Republican Senator John Thune took up the platform from McConnell and spoke to the press.

The minority leader’s health has been called into question before, so this is not a first.

A source informed a media outlet that in July, McConnell tripped and fell while coming down the steps of an airliner at Reagan National Airport and that since then, he has been forced to use wheelchairs at airports.

Trump told Breitbart News that longstanding Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell should step down now that his health problems are so clear because the party needs a new face at the head of the conference.

During an hour-long interview at his residence in New Jersey, Trump revealed that he had seen the footage of McConnell suffering a health issue during a news conference recently.

When asked about Sen. McConnell’s health problems, Trump said he found it “sad,” but he also slammed him for his work over the past few years to assist Democrat President Joe Biden in enacting much of Biden’s agenda.

Although the spending increases ground to a halt after Republicans took the House in the 2022 midterm elections, they were still made possible by Senate Republicans under McConnell’s leadership during Biden’s first two years in office, when the Senate was still controlled by the Democrats.

According to Breitbart News, Trump also said that Senate Republicans would do better under a new leader and that McConnell should resign.
