Former president Donald Trump hosted his latest press conference on August 15—another hours-long media appearance while his opponent Kamala Harris continues to avoid the spotlight.
The current vice president got promoted on the 2024 presidential ticket weeks ago, following President Joe Biden’s unexpected drop out of the race and endorsement of his former running mate. Harris has been called out by the Trump campaign and Republican leaders for avoiding the media.
The GOP nominee’s latest conference took place in Bedminster, New Jersey, when he said that questioned, “where has she been” the past few weeks after promising that she would be “tackling inflation” on “day one.” Trump then bluntly criticized Harris’ campaign for “hiding her,” suggesting that the same tactic had been used for Biden.
After being the leading Democratic candidate for 25 days, Harris has yet to host a press conference or formal interview. According to Trump, the plan is practically the same, since she is also “grossly incompetent” and people will not “buy it” if and when they “hear what she has to say.”
Interestingly, sources within the Trump circle have indicated that they are attempting to get the nominee to take a step back when it comes to insulting Harris. Even the ever-popular Trump has been criticized by members of the GOP who are frustrated that the nominee is spending more time questioning her race than promoting his own policies over Harris’ liberal ones.
Previously, he has described his opponent as “nasty” and “not smart,” hence her apparent inability to conduct interviews and press conferences. Trump noted that Harris has even refused to talk to “friendly people” since she is unable to “do better than Biden.” He also said that the country needs “smart people” in leadership, indicating yet again that Harris was not.
Last week, Harris said that she had “talked to her team” and decided that she would “get an interview scheduled”—without specifying if that meant setting a date or having spoken to someone—by the end of August.
