(FreedomBeacon.com)- On Saturday, Republican Rep. Michael Burgess told Newsmax that Dr. Anthony Fauci must testify to a number of congressional committees while under oath.
The Texas congressman said that he doesn’t plan on joining any kind of witch hunt against Fauci, stating very clearly that he does not fault anybody for saying something one day and then changing their opinion based on new information, but specified that public health officials like Fauci have some very serious questions to answer.
It follows the release of thousands of emails from Dr. Anthony Fauci’s account that were obtained by The Washington Post and BuzzFeed News which revealed that he advised former government officials not to wear masks during the early days of the pandemic.
The emails also revealed that Fauci attended virtual discussions and teleconferences with other public health officials and scientists on the topic of whether or not the virus could have been engineered in a laboratory.
Rep. Burgess said that there are people who are “going to be asking some tough questions” of Dr. Fauci, and the fact that he will be under oath will be significant.
Any such hearing could prove a valuable opportunity for politicians to ask Dr. Fauci to clarify whether he still believes that masks do not work – as he suggested in the emails – and whether or not he knew that funding from the National Institutes of Health was being directed to coronavirus research in the Wuhan laboratory where the virus is believed to have originated.
Fauci famously told Republican Kentucky Senator Rand Paul that he was “entirely” wrong about the NIH funding gain of function research in Wuhan, but it has since been revealed that some $600,000 in funding was directed towards EcoHealth, which in turn funded scientific investigations and experiments in Wuhan that involved the genetic engineering of bat coronaviruses.
During the interview, which you can watch HERE, Rep. Burgess also said that he hopes Democrats on his committee understand the importance of pursuing this investigation.
Maybe House Speaker Nancy Pelosi should turn her focus away from her efforts to smear Republicans with a “January 6 Commission” and focus on something important like finding out the origins of the virus, instead.
