The incident occurred during an after-school skate club meeting when Compton suddenly went into cardiac arrest, leaving him unconscious and without a pulse.

The emergency unfolded rapidly, with students immediately recognizing the severity of the situation. They quickly fetched athletic trainer Amanda Boyd and called 911 for assistance. Boyd’s professional experience proved invaluable as she assessed Compton’s condition and initiated emergency procedures.

Students’ Life-Saving Actions

Two students, in particular, played crucial roles in saving Compton’s life. Steven Amaro, who had recently become CPR-certified, stepped up to perform chest compressions. Meanwhile, Aidan Anthony Gonzalez retrieved and operated the defibrillator under Boyd’s guidance.

“Immediately I knew that he needed serious help, so I pulled him over [onto] his back and took his pulse, and there was no pulse there. Immediately I knew he needed CPR if he had any chance to live,” Boyd said.

The coordinated efforts of the students and Boyd were critical in sustaining Compton until paramedics arrived. The use of the defibrillator also proved to be a decisive factor in reviving the teacher.

Compton, who was unaware of the events during his cardiac arrest, expressed profound gratitude upon learning of the heroic actions that saved his life. “I’m just eternally grateful. That’s what it comes down to,” he said.
