(FreedomBeacon.com)- Phony Vietnam vet Senator Richard “Da Nang Dick” Blumenthal is under fire after speaking at a gala held by a communist group in Connecticut which he hailed as a “remarkable occasion.”
Blumenthal attended the Connecticut People’s World Committee awards ceremony earlier this month where he was introduced as a “special surprise guest.”
The Connecticut People’s World Committee is a branch of the Communist Party USA.
In a gushing address, Da Nang Dick told the assembled commies that he was “excited and honored” to share “this remarkable occasion” with them. He said he was there to honor “the great tradition of activism and standing up for individual workers” exemplified by the group’s three honorees.
After his six-minute speech, one of the commie organizers, Lisa Bergmann, urged those assembled to join the Communist Party if they weren’t already members.
But Blumenthal’s appearance went over like a red lead balloon.
Former Trump administration official Mercedes Schlapp, whose family escaped communist Cuba blasted Blumenthal for cozying up to the communists. Schlapp said on Twitter that watching politicians in the US embrace an ideology responsible for the deaths of millions “is INSANE.”
The Connecticut Republican Party noted the irony of one of the wealthiest members of the US Senate “cozying up with the COMMUNIST PARTY,” adding it was time to send this embarrassing senator “to early retirement in 2022.”
In response to the blowback, Da Nang Dick played dumb.
On Friday, Blumenthal told the Hartford Courant that he thought it was a labor event. Had he known they were communists, Blumenthal spun, he never would have agreed to attend the gala.
Blumenthal defended his capitalist bone fides, arguing that he has always been “a strong supporter and believer in American capitalism.”
If he had known they were communists he wouldn’t have gone?
