In a recent appearance on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” Senator Andy Kim (D-NJ) issued a stark warning to the Republican Party regarding future government funding. Kim cautioned that Democrats might withhold their support for continuing resolutions under the Trump administration, a departure from their past cooperation.

They just don’t want Trump to be able to make any changes. It’s that simple.

The New Jersey senator highlighted the Republicans’ previous reliance on Democratic votes for government funding measures.

“In a few weeks, the Republicans are going to try to figure out how they move forward, and they have, for the last two years, needed Democratic votes for every single continuing resolution, and they should not count on that this time,” Kim stated.

Kim’s concerns (well, when we say concerns, we mean his hatred of the Republican agenda) stem from what he perceives as the Trump administration’s efforts to weaken governmental structures. The Senator accused the administration of attempting to dismantle key agencies, including the U.S. Agency for International Development and the Department of Education.

“You have to look at what the Trump administration is doing right now. They are trying to dismantle the government. So yes,” Kim said.

Yes, that’s exactly right. That is what Trump is doing, and the American people voted for it.

The Democratic senator emphasized that he cannot support government funding that would enable what he views as lawlessness by the administration. This stance reflects growing frustration among Democrats with the current administration’s actions and policies

When pressed about the possibility of voting to shut down the government, Kim redirected responsibility to the Republican majority. He stressed that the onus is on them to secure the necessary votes for government funding.

“This is on them. This is about whether they can get the votes. They are the majority. If they cannot govern, that is for the American people to see. I’ve worked in government. I’ve worked through multiple government shutdowns. I would be the last person who would want to get to that stage, but we are at a point where we are basically on the cusp of a constitutional crisis. Seeing this administration taking steps that are so clearly illegal,” Kim explained.
