Popular speculation on Mark Zuckerberg’s alleged build-out of a nuclear bunker as shelter for himself and his family has reached the ears of the world’s most popular podcast host, Joe Rogan, and Rogan has things to say about the matter.
The escalation of international tensions over the past few decades have sometimes led to reports—often unverified—that public figures from Peter Thiel to Bill Gates have built themselves secret nuclear bunkers as insurance against the day when the ICBMs fly and warheads blanket the surface of the planet with hydrogen bombs. Such rumors have recently begun to encompass the younger generation of tech royalty, most recently Meta CEO and Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg.
Zuckerberg’s name came up when Rogan was speaking on his podcast earlier this month with Annie Jacobsen, an investigative journalist whose recent book Nuclear War: A Scenario has been taking the internet by storm. Jacobsen interviewed a number of officials in and around the Defense Department for her book.
According to Jacobsen, everything she learned from her investigations leads her to believe that there is no nuclear war scenario that ends well. In fact, every single one she’s been able to examine sees five billion people dead within seventy-two minutes of the initial launch.
If nuclear war were ever to begin, Jacobsen told Rogan, it will not end short of a nuclear holocaust. It will happen so fast, she said, that by the time you hear about it, it will be too late to get to any secret bunker that you might have prepared for the occasion.
Rogan jumped in to decry the nonsense that people believe Zuckerberg would build a Hawaiian bunker and have a reasonable hope of survival. Jacobsen concurred, saying that unless Zuckerberg was lucky enough to be on site at the exact time of the onset of hostilities, he’d have no chance of getting into his alleged bunker.
The whole situation, Rogan said, terrifies him.
