School Officials Accused Of “Promoting Suicide”

( Recently concerned parents have begun calling attention to what they believe is another teaching methodology that puts children at risk. The latest pushback surrounds something called Social Emotional Learning, which some parents fear is becoming a Trojan horse for bringing Critical Race Theory into public schools.

Social Emotional Learning (SEL) was first popularized in 1995 with the publication of Daniel Goleman’s book “Emotional Intelligence.” Goleman contended that schools put too much emphasis on intellectual achievement and not enough on things like self-awareness, impulse-control, empathy, and social deftness.

Supporters of SEL say that these are essential tools for the development of children because these tools help them to understand their emotions and experience them to the fullest.

SEL classes are designed to help younger children express their feelings and emotions. For older children, SEL classes involve discussing mental health, sexuality, and race.

Concerned parents, however, are not convinced that it has any place in their children’s education because schools should not be concerning themselves with a child’s emotional and mental well-being. They argue that using SEL in the classroom is just one more way for the school to indoctrinate their children.

In a September school board meeting for Carroll Independent School District in Southlake, Texas, one mother railed against the program arguing that the school should focus on academics and not on “promoting suicide.”

Parents in an Indiana school district recently accused the district of using SEL to advance the LGBT agenda by having children discuss their sexuality.

According to Asra Nomani, the vice president of Parents Defending Education, SEL-based instruction changed after the death of George Floyd in 2020, focusing on “social justice activism” and indoctrinating children in critical race theory, sexuality, and gender identity.

The parents’ group No Left Turn in Education warns that SEL “sets students up to be ‘counseled’” in things that are contrary to what they learn at home. The group warns that this contradictory teaching will likely lead to “serious mental health struggles” for many children.

Nationwide, parents are coming under attack for standing up against this coordinated indoctrination of school children – even from the Biden Justice Department.

And while Attorney General Merrick Garland publicly denied that the DOJ was targeting parents during his testimony before both the House and the Senate late last month, it was reported on Tuesday that House Republicans received whistleblower documents that show the FBI is using its counterterrorism division to investigate and add “threat tags” to parents protesting at school boards.
