Putin Will Not Fly to Glasgow for COP26

(FreedomBeacon.com)- Russian President Vladimir Putin has confirmed that he no longer plans on attending the COP26 climate summit due to take place in Glasgow, Scotland, between October 31 and November 12.

The decision for Russia not to attend the global event, where leaders will for the millionth time talk about the “Green” and “Build Back Better” agenda, is considered a blow by Western nations obsessed with bowing to the every demand of Greta Thunberg.

Dmitry Peskov, a spokesman for the Kremlin, said that “Putin will not fly to Glasgow” but added that climate change remains one of the nation’s most important foreign policy priorities.

British Conservative Prime Minister Boris Johnson was asked about the news, but a response from his spokesperson just insisted that Johnson had strongly encouraged all world leaders to attend the event “given this is a very critical moment in terms of tackling climate change.”

It remains officially unknown why the Russian president has decided to withdraw from the event. He has not provided any comment on his decision, and had previously committed to taking part, but now he will only be attending virtually.

One possible reason why he won’t travel is the COVID-19 pandemic. He previously indicated during a speech on October 13 that the pandemic would play a part in his decision to travel. He may have reason to be concerned about the pandemic, too, given that Russia has hit record-level COVID-related deaths. In an effort to reverse the impact of the pandemic, Putin ordered that everybody in the country receive a paid week-long holiday between October 30 and 7.

Don’t forget, too, that Russia was the first country in the world to administer the vaccine. However, the vaccine hasn’t reached all corners of the massive country. Some 47.4 million people have received two doses of the vaccine in Russia, which is around one-third of the population.
