A family grieving after police have discovered the body of a newlywed nurse who went missing in Oregon just days after marrying her husband.
Melissa Jubane married Bryn Llantero in August, and went missing in August just weeks after the wedding, which took place in Hawaii where Bryan is from. The couple flew back to Oregon after the wedding on the last day of August and spent the Labor Day holiday together before Jubane went back to work on September 3.
The nurse worked at St. Vincent Hospital in Portland, and her coworkers said she came in on September 3 but did not show up for her shift the next day. Family and friends asked the police to check on her and when officers arrived at her house they found that Jubane was not there. Her keys, purse, and wallet were missing, but her car was still in the garage.
Family and police tried to contact the missing woman all day, but could not get through, as it appeared her cell phone was turned off. As police investigated they suspected that Jubane’s neighbor, Bryce Schubert of Beaverton, Oregon, had something to do with her disappearance. After discovering the nurse’s body, cops arrested Schubert on murder charges; he is expected in court for an initial hearing this week.
Details about the investigation and discovery of Jubane’s body are hard to find, and police have not released much specific information. There is no word yet on what motive Schubert may have had, how Jubane was killed, or where her body was found.
The Beaverton Police Department issued a statement offering condolences to Jubane’s family and everyone who knew her. They said that while they understood the intense interest in the case, that the investigation needed to keep details in house to make sure it was completed correctly so the case can proceed. In a recent update, police said Schubert is accused of kidnapping Jubane, and of abusing her corpse after murdering her.
Jubane’s new mother in law, Imelda Llantero, described her son Bryan as “destroyed,” and said she is getting on a plane to Oregon to be with him.
Providence St. Vincent Hospital said Jubane was “an exceptional nurse” who is mourned by everyone who worked with her.
Local police remind the public that the investigation is active and ask anyone who may have information to call 503-526-2280.
