Running back Christian McCaffrey of the San Francisco 49ers wowed the Seattle Seahawks on Thursday night with his athleticism and honor to God.
The two-time Pro Bowler established a new team record for the 49ers with 11 rushing touchdowns in a season after running for 119 yards on 19 runs and scoring two touchdowns on the ground.
In the moments leading up to kickoff, McCaffrey’s fiancée Olivia Culpo posted a video to her Instagram story showing the 49ers star kneeling and seemingly praying in the endzone.
After accumulating 177 yards from scrimmage (106 on the ground and 71 in the air), McCaffrey was named the NFC Offensive Player of the Week. With this touchdown, McCaffrey surpassed Jerry Rice for the team record, scoring thirteen consecutive games. McCaffrey has 459 running yards, enough for first place in the NFL. He is also tied for first with six touchdowns.
He ran for a touchdown in the first two quarters and then caught a pass from quarterback Brock Purdy for a third-quarter score to put the 49ers up 21-3 on Sunday.
He scored all three touchdowns.
In the fourth quarter, he scored again on the ground.
San Francisco won their first Thanksgiving Day game since 1972 with a 31-13 win against Seattle.
Once McCaffrey and his colleagues improved their record to 8-3, they celebrated with a traditional Thanksgiving feast.
McCaffrey said the turkey was delicious and perfectly cooked, but he didn’t know how they kept everything hot. Impressively, twenty minutes after the game, it was still hot and not dry at all, according to the star.
After a slow start, Brock Purdy, the “Niners” quarterback, got back on track in the fourth quarter when he completed a 28-yard touchdown pass to Brandon Aiyuk, putting the game out of reach.
McCaffrey and Purdy not only have a tight friendship as teammates but are also very close spiritually. During an interview with Sports Spectrum earlier this year, Purdy singled out McCaffrey as an employee of the 49ers organization who has been a spiritual mentor to him.
Since losing three games in a row earlier in the year, the 49ers have won three games in a row.
San Francisco is currently two games ahead of Seattle in the NFC West.
