(FreedomBeacon.com)- Things have gotten so bad at CNN that for the first time in history, the beleaguered cable news channel got beaten in last Friday’s primetime ratings by the pipsqueak news network Newsmax.
Newsmax has never bested any of the three major cable news channels in the primetime ratings race, mostly because Newsmax isn’t offered on nearly as many platforms as MSNBC, CNN, or Fox News.
But even with that limited reach, Newsmax’s live coverage of former President Donald Trump’s Pennsylvania campaign rally on Friday night pushed the network over CNN.
According to Nielsen, between 8 pm and 10 pm, Newsmax drew 738,000 total views with an evening primetime average of 579,000. Meanwhile, over at CNN, “Anderson Cooper 360” drew 645,000 total viewers with an average primetime audience of 545,000.
The upstart Newsmax is carried on 20 million fewer homes than CNN, but still, it beat the pants off of the failing fake news network.
Imagine being CNN’s news owner, Discovery. Within days of taking over CNN, its paid subscription service had to fold like a cheap tent, and now, just a few weeks later, a news network without CNN’s massive reach beat the fake news channel in the primetime ratings game.
Not good.
But even with Newsmax’s massive gain, the Fox News Channel came out on top.
Last Friday’s airing of “Tucker Carlson Tonight” beat the competition, drawing 2.85 million viewers, ranking the second-highest watched cable news show for Friday. Fox’s “The Five” came in first with 3.15 million viewers.
