(FreedomBeacon.com)- Controversial Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Mark Milley, who was revealed earlier this year to have made secret phone calls to Chinese officials during the Trump administration, revealed last week that China conducted two missile tests during summer this year using hypersonic missiles.
His confirmation of the tests is likely to anger Beijing, given that the Chinese Communist Party repeatedly insisted that they did not test hypersonic missiles.
During an interview on the David Rubenstein Show, Milley said that we witnessed a “very significant event of a test of a hypersonic weapon system.”
“And it is very concerning. I don’t know if it’s quite a Sputnik moment, but I think it’s very close to that. It has all of our attention,” he added.
It’s reminiscent of the 1957 satellite launch by the Russians which shocked America and proved that Russia was outperforming in terms of space technology.

Speaking of China, Milley added that the country is rapidly expanding in terms of cyber technology, space, and in the traditional domains of land, sea, and air.
“And they have gone from a peasant-based infantry army that was very, very large in 1979 to a very capable military that covers all the domains and has global ambitions. … As we go forward — over the next 10, 20, 25 years — there’s no question in my mind that the biggest geostrategic challenge to the United States is gonna be China. They’ve developed a military that’s really significant,” he added.
So if Milley recognizes that China is a threat, why was he so willing to call up his Chinese counterparts in secret during the Trump administration and disclose sensitive information and undercut the president?
How is this man still in office?
The news of a Chinese hypersonic missile shocked the world earlier this month, but the Biden administration simply said that they “welcome competition.”
