Most Americans Are Worried About Preserving Democracy In New Poll Before Elections

(FreedomBeacon.com)- Over the weekend, NBC News published the results of a survey that found that the majority of Americans want the various investigations into former President Trump to continue.

The survey, conducted after the raid on Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home, found that 92 percent of Democrats and 61 percent of Independents want the Trump investigations to continue while only 21 percent of Republicans do.

However, on the question of whether Trump is to blame for the January 6 riot at the Capitol, respondents were nearly evenly divided with 50 percent of respondents saying Trump is either solely or “mainly” responsible and 49 percent saying Trump is only somewhat responsible or not responsible at all.

The NBC poll shows Joe Biden is still deep underwater, with a majority of respondents, 55 percent, disapproving of his job performance and only 42 percent approving.

Nearly three-quarters of respondents, 74 percent, believe the country is headed in the wrong direction. And despite the White House spin, an overwhelming majority, 68 percent, believe the country is currently in a recession.

Respondents were also given a list of issues and asked which of them is the most important issue the country is facing. Among the issues that NBC News included in its survey was “Threats to democracy.”

Unsurprisingly, with NBC News leading respondents by the nose, “Threats to democracy” received 21 percent, placing it at the top of the list of “most important” issues, followed by “Cost of Living” with 16 percent, “Jobs and the economy” with 14 percent, and “Immigration and the situation at the border” at 13 percent. The other issues, “Climate Change,” “Guns,” “Abortion,” “Crime,” and “The coronavirus” all failed to hit double digits.
