Matt Gaetz Says Democrats “Lit Actual Flames”

(FreedomBeacon)- As Democrats try to destroy President Donald Trump’s legacy and reputation, and smear Republicans as supporters of violent insurrection, Florida Congressman Matt Gaetz reminded the world this week that Democrats “lit actual flames.”

And they did.

During a speech on the House floor on Wednesday, Gaetz spoke in opposition to the second impeachment of the president. He used his time to remind his fellow Congressmen that Democrats had engaged in a violent campaign throughout almost the entirety of 2020.

“President Trump may be most likely to be impeached when he is correct,” Gaetz said when referring to the president’s accusations about the “Biden crime family” and Ukraine, and the allegations of election fraud in the battleground state of Pennsylvania.

“Some have cited the metaphor that the President lit the flame. Well, they lit actual flames. Actual fires,” Gaetz continued.

Remember those? Here’s a reminder.

“Fiery but mostly peaceful protest,” CNN called the unrest in Kenosha in August. Remember that doozy?

Gaetz was booed during his speech in the House, but that’ll happen when half of the country’s politicians are more committed to narrative than facts.

As Gaetz finished his speech, he wasn’t just booed, but shouting could be heard from the gallery. House presiding officer Bett McCollum gavelled down the members who were shouting at Gaetz.

Following his speech, Gaetz also tweeted an article that covered his speech and showed footage and imagery from the violent riots pushed by Democrats and carried out by Antifa and Black Lives Matter activists throughout 2020.

“The left in America has incited far more political violence than the right,” he said.

And the claim holds up, too. While right-wing activists certainly are known to occasionally get violent, left-wing activists have caused roughly $2 billion in damage over the last year alone.

Does Joe Biden think that we should just forget about those riots and brand Republicans insurrectionists?

Something tells us that isn’t going to happen…
