Matt Gaetz Says Allegations Against Him Are Fake

( Florida Republican Rep. Matt Gaetz was shockingly accused by the New York Times this week of dating a 17-year old girl. Headlines suggesting that Gaetz is tied up in a “sex trafficking” charge dominated the news on Wednesday, citing the report.

The Times reported that Gaetz is currently under a Justice Department investigation over whether he had a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl and even paid for her to travel with him, but the paper only cited anonymous sources who were “briefed on the matter.”

As you would expect from the New York Times.

Gaetz strongly denies the accusations, and even says that it is part of a wider scheme to bribe his family out of tens of millions of dollars.

Appearing on Tucker Carlson’s Fox News show, Gaetz said that the “horrible allegation” is a “lie.”

“The New York Times is running a story that I have travelled with a 17-year-old woman and that is verifiably false,” he said. “People can look at my travel records and see that is not the case.”

Gaetz insisted that the person he is alleged to have had a sexual relationship doesn’t exist, and then recalled a dinner he’d had with Tucker Carlson and his wife and said a friend that attended the dinner was threatened as part of the bribe.

“And she was actually threatened by the FBI, told that if she wouldn’t cop to the fact that somehow I was involved in some pay for play scheme that she could face trouble and so I do believe that there are people at the Department of Justice who are trying to smear me,” he added.

It was a weird interview…and Carlson said so, too. After telling Gaetz that he didn’t remember the woman, Carlson finished the segment by expressing his shock at the situation.

“You just saw our Matt Gaetz interview. That was one of the weirdest interviews I’ve ever conducted,” he said.

The Justice Department is reportedly investigating whether Gaetz was involved in relationships with other underage girls, according to another anonymous source who spoke to the Associated Press.

Speaking to Axios, Gaetz said that his lawyers were informed that he was the subject of an investigation regarding sexual conduct with women, but that he wasn’t the target of the investigation.

Gaetz insists that he and his family have been the “victims of an organized criminal extortion involving a former DOJ official seeking $25 million while threatening to smear my name.” He also said that his family has been cooperating with the FBI and his father even wore a wire to catch the criminals behind it.

He even named a man – a David McGee, formerly of the Justice Department – as being behind the plot.

Tucker Carlson described this story as “deeply interesting.” That’s an understatement…
