A Mississippi man was left red-faced when he accidentally texted a police officer and asked him if he was available to get together to smoke cannabis. An officer at the Gulfport Police Department received a text from someone he didn’t recognize, but replied to a message stating “yo,” kickstarting a short conversation.
After a couple of posts, the sender asked, “wanna smoke?” followed by “I got some.” When the police officer replied, saying he didn’t think getting together to smoke was a good idea, he received a text saying, “Bruh, we smoke all the time.” At that point, the officer answered, “I think you have the wrong number.” The friend, obviously believing the response was a joke, replied again, but the police officer brought the conversation to an abrupt halt by posting an image of himself holding his badge.
Gulfport Police later posted photos of the text exchange on its Facebook page, along with some friendly advice: “Before you send the text, double-check the number.”
The incident is reminiscent of a similar tale that made headlines back in 2019. An officer from Winfield Police Department in Missouri received a message from an unidentified person who believed he was speaking to a girl he went out with and “got high.” The officer told the sender he had the wrong number, but he refused to accept it and continued to insist that the pair had been together recently and that he would pick her up to go to a game. The police officer then decided to end the exchange with a picture of his badge.
In another instance, a man accidentally reported himself to the police and even informed them of his whereabouts. Last summer, a Monterey Police officer received a text from an individual seeking assistance to confront a group of adverseries with weapons. Wesley Langkamp told the officer exactly where he was and waited for him to arrive. The police soon arrested Langkamp after discovering guns and narcotics in his vehicle. He was charged with several offenses, including possession of a controlled substance while armed with a loaded firearm.
