(FreedomBeacon.com)- Vice President Kamala Harris is very worried about pro-Trump candidates running for office in this year’s midterm elections, calling it a “very scary situation.”
Harris, giving an interview on the program “The Morning News with Vineeta Sawkar,” was specifically referring to Republican candidates who are running for positions in their state that have oversight over local and state elections. Some of those candidates, she said, have continued to either question the results of the 2020 presidential election, or continue to push baseless claims about fraud.
As she said in the interview:
“There are 11 candidates in 11 states running for secretary of state, which is a position that means you’re running elections, who are election deniers. It’s a very scary situation in that regard.
“But, I’m going to tell you, and I believe this firmly, our democracy will be as strong as our willingness to fight for it. And that means the people being engaged, it means voting, it means saying not on my watch are we going to deteriorate but instead we are going to fight for freedom and integrity.”
The Hill reported recently that, despite investigations and audits in battleground states revealing there wasn’t any major fraud during the 2020 election, there are still a number of GOP candidates running for state office that claim the election was stolen.
Two of those candidates are running for governor — Kari Lake from Arizona and Doug Mastriano from Pennsylvania. Also included in that group are candidates for secretary of state — Kristina Karamo from Michigan, Mark Finchem from Arizona and Jim Marchant from Nevada.
Many polls have indicated that these candidates are far behind their Democratic counterparts in the election, so it’s possible Harris won’t have to worry about her fears coming true. At the same time, other polls are showing that some of the candidates are actually quite competitive or could even be ahead in the race at this point.
For instance, Lake and Marchant have been shown to be ahead of the Democratic candidates they are challenging, according to some polls. It’s this fact that has Harris particularly worried about the outcome of the midterm elections next month.
As she said on the program:
“People around the world are watching us because, you know, when you’re a role model, people watch what you do to see if it matches up to what you say. And so it’s incumbent on us, the American people, to fulfill our promise as established by our founding fathers and mothers to hold this together. It is as fragile or as strong as our willingness to fight for it.”
So much of the focus of the midterm elections has been on federal positions and which political party will have control of the two chambers of Congress. And while that certainly is important, there are many of these state-level positions also up for election that could have huge ramifications for the country going forward.
