Kamala Harris Closing Gap On Trump in Latest Election Polls

A new survey released on Thursday shows that Vice President Kamala Harris is rapidly catching up to former President Donald Trump, and the gap that led President Biden to withdraw from the race with the Republican nominee is nearly closed.

A survey conducted by Siena College and the New York Times found that among likely voters, Harris is behind Trump by 48% to 47%. Nonetheless, this is a significant improvement over Biden, who was six points behind Trump when he withdrew from the race on Sunday.

This poll marks one of the initial significant surveys to be published following Ms. Harris’s assumptive nomination as the Democratic candidate this week.

Trump has a slight nationwide edge over Harris among registered voters, with 48% to 46%. At the beginning of July, Trump held a nine-point lead over Biden.

Voters under the age of 30, a group with whom Biden had difficulty winning, overwhelmingly backed Harris in the survey. With a lead of ten points among those under the age of forty-five, Harris has the backing of around sixty percent of voters under the age of thirty.

People under the age of 45 favored Trump over Biden by a narrow margin.

The effect of Harris’s candidacy in states that are considered to be in the thick of the race remains unknown, as the poll questioned people throughout the country. On the other hand, 93% of Democrats were rooting for her, which is on par with the number of Republicans who have backed Trump.

The nation’s perception of Harris has improved since she became the probable Democratic nominee. Her favorability rating has increased by ten percentage points compared to February. With 48% of the vote in her favor, she is second only to Donald Trump, but she is further ahead than Joe Biden, who had 43% when he dropped out of the race.

The poll, conducted from July 22nd to the 24th, has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.3 percentage points. It surveyed 1,142 registered voters nationwide.
