Joe Biden Used To Support The NRA Before He Switched Sides For Power

(FreedomBeacon.com)- Like most of the rest of the Democrat Party, the more moderate positions Joe Biden took early in his career have been abandoned as the party moved further and further to the Left.

As the old saying goes, this isn’t your father’s Democrat Party.

In the mid-1980s, the Senate Judiciary Committee was considering a bill called the Firearm Owners Protection Act. Judiciary member Senator Joe Biden echoed the National Rifle Association’s argument that “with or without gun control,” criminals will get their hands on guns.

The Firearm Owners Protection Act passed the Senate in the summer of 1985 in a 79 to 15 vote. Senator Biden was one of the Democrats to vote in favor of the measure.

The bill limited federal inspections of firearms dealers and allowed them to sell guns at gun shows. It made it easier for private collectors to sell guns by not requiring them to obtain a federal dealer’s license.

Before the vote, Senator Biden defended the bill, calling it a “balanced piece of legislation” that would protect private gun owners’ rights without “infringing on law enforcement’s ability to deal with those who misuse guns or violate laws.”

Delaware’s Democrat Senator said he never believed additional gun control laws would reduce crime. He said criminals who want a gun will be able to get one “with or without gun control.”

Less than ten years later, Biden was instrumental in passing the so-called “Assault Weapons Ban” which, to this day, he claims reduced gun violence (it didn’t).

Now as President, Biden wants Congress to reinstitute the “Assault Weapons Ban” that would include banning the single most popular semi-automatic rifle in the country.

This isn’t the only issue where Joe Biden has radically moved left.

For years, Joe Biden supported the Hyde Amendment which prohibits federal taxpayer funding of abortion.

But not anymore.

The bottom line here is that Joe Biden isn’t a leader, but a follower. So as the Democrat Party veered ever Leftward, old Joe followed along in the wake. He’s a weathervane, sticking his finger in the wind to see which way it blows.

And when you add the fact that Joe Biden isn’t the guy in charge of this administration, it isn’t at all surprising that the so-called “Moderate Working Class Scranton Joe” has all but disappeared.
