Harris Attempts to Bait Trump Into Releasing Medical Records

Former President Donald Trump has always been pretty honest about his medical health – or, at least, his mental and cognitive health. The former president said that he wouldn’t even run in 2024 if he felt he wasn’t mentally up for it – but here we are.

And now, Kamala Harris is losing so badly in the polls that she’s trying to bait Trump into releasing medical records. Even though there’s no real concern about Trump’s health.

Here’s what she’s up to.

At a glance:

  • Kamala Harris released her medical records, revealing she is in “excellent health,” and used the opportunity to call out Donald Trump for refusing to do the same.
  • Harris suggested that Trump’s refusal to release his medical history and participate in another debate raises concerns about his fitness to lead.
  • Trump’s campaign responded by citing previous health reports from doctors and dismissed the need for further updates.

In a pointed attack during a rally at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, Kamala Harris challenged Donald Trump for not releasing his medical records, questioning what he might be hiding. Harris, the 59-year-old Democratic presidential nominee, had recently made her own health report public, and she used the rally to pressure Trump, 78, to do the same.

Addressing the crowd of 7,000 supporters, Harris suggested that Trump’s reluctance to release his medical history or participate in a second debate raises doubts about his stability and ability to serve as president. “One must question: Are they afraid that people will see that he is too weak and unstable to lead America?” Harris said, drawing cheers from the audience.

She’s trying to bait him. It’s so obvious.

Harris also criticized Trump for dodging an interview with CBS’s 60 Minutes, a standard appearance for presidential candidates in recent decades. While Trump had previously stated he would “very gladly” release his health records, his campaign has so far declined requests from the media.

Trump’s team responded to Harris’s criticisms, referencing prior medical reports from his personal doctor and former White House physician Ronny Jackson, now a Republican congressman. These reports, they said, confirmed Trump’s excellent health following an assassination attempt in July. “All have concluded he is in perfect and excellent health to be commander in chief,” campaign spokesman Steven Cheung said.

Harris continued her criticisms by addressing Trump’s spreading of misinformation regarding disaster relief following Hurricane Helene, accusing him of trying to exploit the situation for political gain. Trump has faced backlash for falsely claiming that storm victims were only eligible for $750 in aid from the Federal Emergency Management Agency, a claim that both Harris and President Joe Biden have debunked.

North Carolina is shaping up to be a critical battleground state in the upcoming election. While no Democratic presidential nominee has carried the state since Barack Obama in 2008, Harris’s campaign is hopeful that the state’s 16 electoral votes are within reach. Trump narrowly won North Carolina by 1.3 percentage points in 2020, and recent polls show him leading Harris by a slim margin of 0.7 percentage points. With early voting set to begin soon, Harris’s team is working to ensure high voter turnout, especially among Black voters who played a key role in Biden’s 2020 victory in the state.

Harris concluded her remarks by calling on voters to stay focused on the upcoming election rather than on Trump’s legal battles. When the crowd began chanting “Lock him up,” she urged them to “let the courts handle that” and instead focus on the importance of November’s election.

It’s not going to work. At least, it probably won’t.

Maybe Kamala should focus on being a likeable candidate with good ideas rather than trying to manufacture outrage or concern about Trump?
