Former SEAL Who Shot bin Laden Describes What He Saw

( In case you missed it: In an October interview with the Daily Caller, Rob O’Neill, the former Navy SEAL who shot and killed Osama bin Laden described in detail the May 2011 raid on bin Laden’s compound and just how much damage the shots did to bin Laden.

During the interview, the Daily Caller’s David Hookstead asked O’Neill if was true that bin Laden’s head was actually blown apart as reported.

O’Neill told Hookstead that he shot bin Laden three times in the face. So when they needed to take his picture for confirmation, O’Neill had to squeeze his head back together to get the picture.

O’Neill told Hookstead that the fake pictures that have circulated on the Internet don’t come close to showing how badly mangled bin Laden’s face was.

Bin Laden was shot at close range with 77-grain hollow-point bullets, O’Neill explained. The impact split his face apart. To get a clear photo, they had to rinse his face with water, then hold his face together.

Concerning complaints that he didn’t just fire into bin Laden’s chest or gut, O’Neill explained that real life isn’t like Hollywood where shooting someone in the gut will kill them.
