(FreedomBeacon.com)- The United States State Department just issued a warning that, in other circumstances, might be labeled bigoted, racist, or extreme.
The Press Trust of India reported on Wednesday that Americans have been advised to exercise “increased caution” if visiting India, owing to an increased risk of rape and violent crime.
The United States State Department wrote on a November 15 notice that Indian authorities have reported that rape is one of the fastest-growing crimes in the country. According to the notice, these crimes have occurred at tourist sites in India and elsewhere.
Travelers were advised that the national alert system has increased the warning level for India to “Level 2,” which means that travelers should “exercise increased caution.” A “Level 1” warning means that visitors should “exercise normal precautions” while visiting the country.
The problem of violent crime and rape is very much growing in India. In February of last year, a domestic Indian tourist was abducted and raped by a gang of men after visiting a mountain village in the Himalayas.
Just 24 years old, the woman was leaving a tourist attraction in Ramargh when four men started following her. She wasn’t alone, but the men still targeted her. The woman’s uncle was grabbed by the men and tied to the tree, while the men grabbed her, took her away, and violently raped her in a forest.
A report from CNN also revealed how a female tourist was raped in Goa, a southwestern state in India, in December of 2018 while she was walking to her hotel.
A police officer from Canacona said that a man “took her into the fields and raped her and then he took her bags with him.”
Goa is a popular tourist destination for people all over the world, thanks to its coastline, beaches, and attractions.
If you’re planning on visiting India, remember to take heed of this new warning.
