Donald Trump To Be Hit With Daily Fines

(FreedomBeacon.com)- Former President Donald Trump could be hit with fines every day until he complies with a subpoena demanding that he return all classified documents that he allegedly took from the White House in 2021, according to Newsweek. The Department of Justice reportedly asked a federal judge to hold Trump in contempt because they fear that he still has documents in his possession.

The former president was allegedly in communication with the National Archives and Records Administration earlier in the year. Trump and his lawyers claim that when he was originally subpoenaed in May, all documents were returned in June. But when the FBI raided his home in Mar-a-Lago, they allegedly found over 100 documents marked top secret.

The DOJ made their request to District Judge Beryl A. Howell after they learned that Trump’s lawyers found two additional documents located at a storage facility in West Palm Beach, Florida, just before Thanksgiving.

The lawyers subsequently turned the documents over to the FBI and claimed that they believe there are no more documents being held by the former president, which federal prosecutors reject.

The decision to hold Trump in contempt has yet to be made, but if Howell does go along with it, either Trump or his legal team may face daily fines until all of the documents are returned. Prosecutors are also suggesting that the legal team be held in contempt for not appointing a custodian to sign off and confirm that all the documents have been handed over.

Trump’s team claimed they appointed attorney Christina Bobb as a custodian in June, and she signed a letter written by Evan Corcoran, confirming the return of materials. But Bobb was reportedly skeptical about the letter and asked for a disclaimer that the materials were “based upon the information that has been provided to me.”

Trump is also being sued by New York Attorney General Leticia James as she intends to prevent Trump and his organization from ever doing business in the state again.
