(FreedomBeacon.com)- President Joe Biden may be the leader of the Democratic Party right now, but there are apparently many liberals who are scrambling to find a replacement for him, should he decide not to run for re-election in 2024.
Biden’s tenure in the White House hasn’t been very successful thus far, by anyone’s standards, and his polling numbers are tragically low. A new media report that came out shows that there are those in the Democratic Party that have taken notice and are very concerned about his chances of actually winning re-election in 2024, assuming he decides to run again.
Last month, North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper hosted the Spring Policy Conference of the Democratic Governors Association in his state. The topics of the conference including things such as diversity in governance and health care.
But, discussions that happened between some people outside of the conference’s scheduled gatherings took a much different tone.
According to reports published in both the Intelligencer and New York Magazine this week, talk about whether the president would run for re-election was a secret that wasn’t so secret among attendees.
The only public indications Biden has given on the topic thus far are that he plans to run for the White House again in two years. If he were to be re-elected, he would turn 82 years old on the day of his inauguration.
His age isn’t something that deters Biden, though, according to one adviser for the Democrat. In fact, that person told New York Magazine:
“He was told in ’16 he couldn’t cut it. He runs in ’20 and everybody rolls their eyes, and he still wins. So, why in the world now would he be like, ‘You guys are right. I am old.’?”
Despite Biden’s confidence in himself, it was apparent among those who attended the recent governor’s conference that there are questions about Biden’s desire to run for re-election and also the desire of major players in the Democratic Party to support him in that endeavor.
Some potential replacements were Biden were thrown around among those who were at the conference, according to the reports. That included Cooper, the host of the conference, as well as some other Democratic governors that included Colorado’s Jared Polis, Illinois’ J.B. Pritzker and New Jersey’s Phil Murphy.
What added fuel to the fire was a memo that came from Faiz Shakir, the campaign manager for Senator Bernie Sanders, which was leaked to The Washington Post. The Post reported that the note read:
“In the event of an open 2024 Democratic presidential primary, Senator Sanders has not ruled out another run for president, so we advise that you answer any questions about 2024 with that in mind.”
According to the New York Magazine report, many of the people who commented about the talk at the conference said they were only making contingency plans if Biden should decide not to run.
But, Biden apparently isn’t backing down from his commitment to run again in two years. That would make all this back room talk moot.
