China Successfully Lands Rover On Mars In Dangerous New Development

( China has finally caught up with the United States and landed its own rover on Mars, according to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) and the China National Space Administration (CNSA).

A photograph was tweeted by the CNSA of what they said was the Tianwen rover landing on the planet, though the image looked heavily Photoshopped and was likely just an artist’s rendering of the landing rather than a photograph.

XinhuaNet, a Chinese state media outlet, reported on the landing.

“ The lander carrying China’s first Mars rover has touched down on the red planet, the China National Space Administration (CNSA) confirmed on Saturday morning,” the outlet confirmed on May 15. “It is the first time China has landed a probe on a planet other than Earth.”

The Tianwen-1 mission consisted of an orbiter – a machine that orbits the planet and takes photographs from afar – as well as a lander and rover. It was launched from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site on the island province of Hainan on July 23 last year, marking the end of a 10-month-long journey through the solar system. The craft entered Mars orbit in February after seven months of travel, and spend a further two to three months surveying the planet from above to decide on the safest landing site.

The Global Times, another Chinese state media outlet, described how the first Chinese interplanetary expedition “spectacularly conquered a new major milestone, with its lander-rover combination successfully soft-landing at the planned site in the southern part of a vast plain known as Utopia Planitia on Mars on early Saturday morning local time.”

China previously attempted to land a rover on Mars roughly 10 years ago, but the Russian rocket transporting the craft eventually failed. It’s a big milestone and just one part of China’s plan to take over the United States as the global superpower.
