America has been nearly from its founding, a market-based nation driven by a Capitalist economy. In the modern world, consumerism and spending have taken on new extremes. That is why it is no surprise that at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, politics and business have criss-crossed. Two men created a complete volume of the former 45th President Donald J. Trump’s many tweets (before his banishment from the platform in early 2020), and sold them at the convention, labeling them “poetry”. In a hardcover, green-bound book, Gregory Woodman and Ian Pratt have marketed many various sayings from Trump over his years in public service. One featured remark is that of what was likely an infamous typo by Trump when the word “covfefe” was coined by the former president and spread as a humorous saying. Both men claimed that they would use the sayings as a way to raise funds for the families of the victims of the shooting at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
The upcoming election is set to be a close contest. In a recent article by the Hill, the latest poll shows a deadlock in the state of Virginia between Trump and Joe Biden. Republicans have not won the state in over a decade, and Biden carried the state by 10 points in 2020. An average of some 22 polls show Biden with a narrow 1.5% lead over Trump. The last time a Republican presidential candidate carried Virginia was in 2004. Republicans are optimistic, but many polls continue to show congressional and senatorial Democrats as faring considerably better than the incumbent president, suggesting that voter’s dissatisfaction with Biden is not translating into dissatisfaction with the overall message of the Democratic party.
The Republican National Convention continues on Thursday, with Hulk Hogan and Donald Trump set to speak. The convention has been a success for Republicans, who appear unified and enthusiastic behind the former president Trump.
