(FreedomBeacon.com)- And now we know…AG Bill Barr never had President Trump’s back.
According to Business Insider, in spring of 2020, President Trump was mulling replacing FBI Director Chris Wray. Prompted by Wray’s continued reluctance to investigate Antifa, instances of voter fraud, and corruption in the Biden family following revelations surrounding Joe Biden’s son, Hunter, Trump was looking for a replacement.
President Trump appeared to float Bill Evanina, a counterintelligence official who had previously worked at the FBI, for the post.
Bill Barr came to the White House for a meeting and was introduced to Evanina. After Barr realized that Evanina was being considered to replace Wray, according to the report, he left the room.
Afterward, Barr threatened to resign as Attorney General in protest if Wray was removed.
Barr’s threat was apparently effective as Wray stayed on as FBI director even after ongoing deliberations over his firing that lasted until December.
Thanks in part to the Wray-Barr duo, allegations of voter fraud, prosecution of Antifa thugs, and consequences for rioters throughout the summer of 2020 were largely avoided.
Wray himself replaced fired FBI Director James Comey, who was removed by President Trump in May of 2017. At the time, Trump specifically cited Comey’s bungling of the investigation into Hillary Clinton’s private email server used during her tenure as Secretary of State. The firing also coincided with the news that Comey gave false information during a testimony before Congress regarding Clinton’s emails.
Despite the fact that many Democrats had themselves called for Comey’s removal months earlier, many blamed Comey’s firing on his investigation into the alleged Trump-Russia connection. They claimed that Trump’s actions against Comey constituted an obstruction of justice and an attempt to bully or intimidate an investigation. President Trump repeatedly called the investigation a “hoax” and a “witch hunt” intended to impede substantive progress in his administration.
A special investigation led by former FBI Director Robert Mueller later determined that there was no collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia to influence the results of the 2016 election.
President Biden has already signalled that FBI Director Wray will stay in his position for the foreseeable future.
That news should come as little surprise to most observers. Loyalty gets repaid. No word on whether AG Barr will be offered a position in the Biden administration as well.
