$54 Million In Chinese Gifts Given To Penn, Home Of Biden Center

(FreedomBeacon.com)- The Virginia-based government watchdog group, The National Legal and Policy Center, is demanding the US attorney probing Hunter Biden also investigate tens of millions of dollars in anonymous donations from China to the University of Pennsylvania after it established the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement in Washington DC.

From 2014 through June of 2019, the university received $54.6 million in donations from China, nearly half of which, 23.1 million, were anonymous gifts.

The majority of anonymous donations began around the time the University of Pennsylvania announced that it was creating the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement.

The Penn Biden Center, located in Washington DC, was created in February 2017 shortly after Joe Biden’s term as vice president ended, and opened its doors a year later.

President Biden’s current Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, briefly served as the Center’s managing director.

According to public records, in the year The Penn Biden Center opened, the University of Pennsylvania received $15.8 million in anonymous donations from China, including a single $14.5 million donation in May 2018.

The National Legal and Policy Center believes this influx in anonymous Chinese donations may be linked to Hunter Biden’s business dealings in China. The watchdog group is asking US Attorney David Weiss to investigate these donations to the university as part of his ongoing federal tax probe of Hunter Biden.

Stephen MacCarthy, a spokesman for the University of Pennsylvania denied that any of the money from anonymous Chinese donors has gone to the Penn Biden Center for Diplomacy and Global Engagement.

MacCarthy said the Penn Biden Center has neither solicited nor received any gifts from any foreign entities and the university doesn’t solicit donations for the Center.

Despite the Penn Biden Center’s mission statement saying it does not accept donations, MacCarthy did concede that the Center received a total of $1,100 from three unsolicited gifts from two American donors in 2017. However, he would not identify those donors.

MacCarthy would not say how the University of Pennsylvania has used the $54.6 million it received from Chinese donors.
